is, fundamentally, a commodity - after all, we have limited land - and its stakeholders - NIMBYs, developers, planners, or lawmakers alike - all seek profit. Sure, people live in them, but the scarcity would only enforce the commercial nature, unless a conscious party takes the control from all stakeholders...

Anyways, if we cannot use up more land, then we must recycle underused developed land. But that's pushing the most vulnerable to the worst places...

Type & delete, type & delete, type & delete. And then feel like I have nothing interesting to say. 😆

is what powers of thoughts, expression, assembly, and movement. It is what allows us to exercise our rights to seek the better for ourselves. So why are we getting less privacy protections than before? How is the different than paper correspondences? The spirit of law must be thoroughly codified and applied to the cyberspace.

By the way, you certainly can avoid the , but it's a process, not something to try at the heat of a moment...

Reduce, reuse, recycle.

But:

- In order to reduce, there need to be proper infrastructure to compensate for the thing being reduced;
- In order to reuse, things need to be durable and easily maintainable, modularly upgradable and repairable;
- If you go to the recycle step ignoring the first two, you've already lost.

As we see, just "changing consumer habits" doesn't work.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Can we as a society not promote surveillance capitalism, or mass surveillance in general? It only serves to make companies richer, and mass surveillance only hurts us more than it does to help “protect” us because it leaves us more vulnerable to attacks by other people, companies, governments and even other countries and nations.

It is only natural for someone to stay home when they feel ill, with or not, because that's how people get better. Do businesses want reduced productivity for longer or just a few day's rest for full productivity afterwards, at the same cost?

While it's good for Illinois to allow private citizens to sue firms for concerns over , as we know, the justice system is only accessible to those who are resourceful... so I'd still prefer a regulator with functioning complaint, investigation and enforcement mechanisms for more aspects of privacy. Nevertheless, looking at the current class actions and settlements, making privacy invasions expensive is a good start.

I agree that experimental drugs should be distributed similar to organ donations, as both have significant probabilities to be lifesavers. It should depend on responsibilities, not loudness, to determine who gets it in a timely fashion, on top of appropriate consenting mechanisms. Liability standards should also be clearly set out for both the drug maker and the patient's relatives.

Isn't #JaronLanier just describing the #fediverse here? Is it really possible he doesn't know about it? His groups are like our servers, small and locally moderated with an incentive to maintain a good reputation. But where it's easy to switch. Hmm...

In a vague subject like , devoid of factual rigour to apply scientific research methods with, "do your own research" IS "believe in what you want to believe." It is an endless gamble of cash, pure and simple.

While the author is strong enough to pull through her early adulthood alone, and fortunate enough eventually find a caring "mom," a 10-year delay would hardly be acceptable for many other people struggling with after domestic situations. If people can be sympathetic to take in strangers in need, why can't public bodies do the same for the citizens in need?
